Situations in which the explainable and rationally tangible meet the indecipherable represent one of the key areas of interest for artist duo João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva. Thus, the works by the Portuguese artists show physical experiments, natural processes, episodes from everyday life or history as well as psychic phenomena or moments of magic. Often, what is actually explainable becomes inexplicable and the indecipherable becomes decipherable. The films, photographs, sculptures and installations behave like approximations and investigations of our world, whereby old familiars appear in a completely different light and raise and infinite number of questions and puzzles.
